Urinary health requires close attention particularly in cats; neutered, overweight and low-water-intake cats should be monitored more closely. The most decisive factor here is adequate water intake: fresh water access, multiple bowls and wet food should be encouraged. Nutrasion products in this category are prepared with ingredients such as cranberry extract, D-mannose and methionine to contribute nutritionally to normal urinary function. Straining to urinate, blood in the urine or inability to urinate — particularly in male cats — is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary attention.
